Norteam Shipping Services, Inc. (NSSI) recognizes your right to privacy. By using this website or submitting your information to NSSI, you agree and consent to the collection, recording, and storage of your personal data for employment processing purposes, in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.

What We Collect

Your personal information is collected through written records, digital records, and photographs. This includes:

During Application

  • Personal data from physical or digital application forms
  • Resume, employment history, and professional/training certificates
  • Information obtained through applicant interviews or declared references
  • Online job application submissions via the NSSI website

Upon Initial Employment

  • Travel Documents and Flag State Documents
  • Training Certificates and Certificates of Competency/Proficiency
  • PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and SSS-related documents and IDs
  • Birth Certificate (applicant and dependents), Marriage Contract
  • Bank account details for allotment purposes
  • Vaccine Card and Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) Result

During Ongoing Employment

  • Data for processing benefits, loans, and performance evaluations
  • Updated licenses and training certificates
  • Information related to disciplinary cases
  • Photos and videos for documentation or office events
  • CCTV footage from cameras located in the NSSI office

How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data to pursue our legitimate interests as an employer and crewing agency, comply with laws and regulations, and for research, historical, and statistical purposes, including:

  • Identifying applicants and processing applications
  • Assessing and verifying candidates for a position
  • Establishing and maintaining an accurate crew information system
  • Background checking
  • Processing compensation, benefits, and standard employment functions
  • HR functions such as performance management and disciplinary issues
  • Communication of relevant news and announcements
  • Personnel training and seminars
  • Compiling statistics, surveys, and research for internal purposes
  • Communicating with your next of kin in case of an emergency

How We Share, Disclose, or Transfer

We may share your personal data with the following parties to pursue our legitimate interests as your crewing agent:

  • Government agencies (POEA, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, BIR, MARINA) for reporting and accreditation
  • Insurance companies, banks, AMOSUP, PEME Clinics, and health service providers
  • Flag State Offices, Embassies, Airlines, and shipping agents for embarkation/disembarkation
  • NSSI's Principals outside the Philippines for facilitation of onboard employment
  • Court orders and other legal obligations
  • Promotional use (photos/videos) for social media, website, and marketing materials — with your consent

NSSI will never share, disclose, or transfer your data for matters unrelated to your employment or our legitimate interests as your crewing agency — unless required by law.

How We Protect Your Data

NSSI exercises due diligence in limiting access to your personal information. We apply the following safeguards:

  • Physical security: CCTV monitoring and office locks
  • Digital security: password-protected databases, encryption, anti-virus software, and firewalls
  • UV scanner for document validation; MARINA-issued certificates verified through MARINA's online database
  • Access to data restricted to authorized NSSI personnel only
  • All staff trained on data privacy policies and implementation

How We Store & Retain Your Data

Your personal data is stored in paper and electronic formats, as well as shared databases between departments and our Principals. Data is retained only for as long as needed:
